73% of people in the country cannot buy healthy food

The report titled 'The State of Global Food Security and Nutrition 2022' was jointly released by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the International Organization for Agricultural Development, UNICEF, the World Food Program and the World Health Organization.
In 2017, about 77.4% of the population of Bangladesh was unable to afford healthy food, which decreased to 73% in 2022.
According to the report, Nepal is lagging behind in terms of affordability of healthy food among South Asian countries, followed by Pakistan.
The position of our neighboring country India is slightly ahead of Bangladesh. Sri Lanka and Bhutan have the highest purchasing power of healthy food.
According to the report, an average of 41.1% of people in the South Asian region cannot afford healthy food.
The report notes that the challenges of eradicating hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition are increasing.
The Covid-19 pandemic has also highlighted the fragility of our agri-food system and the inequalities that exist in society.
It also said that despite global progress, child malnutrition, deficiencies of essential micronutrients, overweight and obesity remain a cause for concern.
